We Are Reading - Lancashire Authority have designated 2018 as a “Let’s Get Reading” year, in which all schools, libraries, children and young people’s services work together to promote reading. Our school have ‘taken the pledge’ to be a reading school, hence our use of the official ‘We are Reading’ logo on our school letters. We have been raising the profile of reading across the school and we will be adding news about the project to the newsletter each week. Did you know….. Albert Einstein once said “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be very intelligent, read them more fairy tales”?

Wednesday Word –The Wednesday Word is a leaflet which carries the Sunday Gospel into family homes. This excellent resource is a way to support school families and a wonderful way to enhance the home, school and parish partnership. The children receive the leaflet in school each week for them to take home to read with the rest of the family. Please try to share some time with your children reading the scripture and doing the activities. Thank you.

All the King’s Men/ In Flanders Field – Konflux Theatre have been in school this week and the children have taken part in workshops; Classes 2-5 did In Flanders Field” and Class 6 did ‘All the King’s Men’ They have been a roaring success with the following feedback from the children – Maeve Class 2 – “ It was fun! We learned about the war and the people who died”. Isaac Class 2 – “I was a soldier. You had to jump forward and make a bang noise like the sounds of war. It was fun!” Stanley Class 3 – “I enjoyed the bit where you had to line up in two lines and he shouted ‘ATTENTION!’ and we listened to some stories about a person in the war who wrote poems.”

“We Will Remember Them” – All of the children took part in 2 minutes silence today at 11am to show their respect to those who gave up their lives for us.

Poppy Appeal – Thank you to everyone who has bought items from our poppy appeal, there has been a huge response.

TIME Project – Classes 4 & 5 have all taken part in music workshops today with a real life composer!
