Gymnastics Competitions – Some children have competed in Chorley Sports Partnership’s gymnastics competition and had great fun, representing the school and showing off their skills. Well done to Evelyn C, Lola S, Stanley M, Maddy O and Rhys A from year 2 and James K, Fern C, Evie P, Phoebe T from year 4 and Ronnie O from Year 3 who all performed so well. A special well done to Phoebe T who was awarded a gold medal for the overall best gymnast for the year 4 group. We are very proud of you all!

World Book Day - World Book Day is on Thursday 1st March and the PTFA will be having their usual “Sponsored Readathon”. We are asking the children to bring in up to three props which represent a character from a favourite book or story, eg. a hat, a bag, a wand etc.

Junior Wet Playtimes -If anyone has any unwanted, “U” rated DVDs that they would like to donate to school so that on occasions when the weather is particularly unsuitable for the children to go outside we have a selection of DVD’s for the children to choose from.

Safer Internet Day - Digital Parenting Magazine (issue 6) is now on the Parents’ tab on the school website.

Parents’ Evening – Wednesday 14th March. Bookings can be made after half-term break.

Half Term - School finishes next Friday at 3.15pm and reopens on Monday 19th February. If you are looking for activities to do with the children why not have a look at Chorley Get Up and Go? http://chorley.gov.uk/Pages/AtoZ/Get-Up-and-Go.aspx

Water Bottles – Please can we remind parents and carers of the importance of ensuring that your child has a clean water bottle in school every day? As part of being a ‘healthy’ school, please ensure that the bottle contains just water and that juice, fruit and flavourings are not added.

Unavoidable School Closures During Inclement Weather- We would like to remind you of the procedures for unavoidable school closures. The school will always do its best to open, but there are occasions when this is not possible. If we do have to close, we will use our text messaging service to contact you and to keep you as up-to-date as possible. We will also publish information on our school website.

Personal Hygiene – Please can we request parents to remain vigilant for head lice, we are getting report suggesting their children are being re-visited by head lice after treatment so please do check your child/ren regularly.

Accessing SchoolFor obvious safety reasons, please may we ask parents, carers and children who access school via Rothwell Road not to use the car park double gates to access and egress school but to use the pedestrian gate near the Reception playground. Also please do not park in front of the gates preventing access to and from the school grounds via car.

PE Kits and Outdoor PE Kits – Please can we remind you that all children require a PE kit in school at all times also (particularly juniors) require an outdoor PE kit for the winter months which needs to be kept in school. Also a pair of trainers should be kept in school for the running track.

UniformThe website to order uniform from is www.slater-schoolwear.co.uk. Orders can be delivered to home (for a small charge) or delivered to school. As the weather is getting warmer (finally), please can you ensure that your child has their name on jumpers/cardigans as the children are taking them off and trying to reunite pupils to belongings is a great challenge if they are not named.

Road SafetyIf your child walks to/from school, please ensure that they use the crossing patrol at the crossroads and understand to check all routes before crossing. There have been several reports of pupils crossing busy roads unsupervised (particularly at the Co-op) which could result in a serious accident.

Office Hours - The school office is closing every day from 9.30am – 11am. This is to allow Mrs MacLeod to have some uninterrupted time to focus on office duties. We will review this if need be, but in the meantime thank you for your understanding.
