Summer Holidays

We finish for the Summer holidays at 3.15 pm on Friday 21st July. We wish all of our families, staff and children a very happy and restful break. Thank you to every member of our school family; none of us are as powerful or as smart as all of us in  making positive differences, every day, to the education and well being of our children. It is only when we work together effectively, that we are at our best. Thank you for your continued support. School reopens on Wednesday 6th September.

Sports Awards

We are very proud of all of our children but there are some children who deserve an extra special mention for their recent great achievements. Last Friday evening, Mr Merrick and I, had the pleasure of attending the Chorley Schools PE and Sports Awards  Celebration Evening at Chorley Town Hall. Grace Carroll, Class 6,  won the overall award for Outstanding Perfomance in the Gifted and Talented Dance Academy; Callum Purnell, Class 6, won the Most Improved Award in the same academy. Holly Flemming, Class 5,  won the Culture Award in the 'Design a Flag' competition. Last to be presented were the High Quality Physical Education Awards. We won the award for 'Whole School Impact'. This category statment read:

Recognising the school that can demonstrate that PE makes a difference to their school's everyday life, all staff and children are keen, committed and motivated to try new ideas and make a real effort, making PE as important as other core subjects.'

We are very proud of this achievement and in particular, owe a big thank you to Mr Merrick for the time, enthusiasm and commitment that he shows to all aspects of PE at St Joseph's.

Uniform – The website to order uniform from is www.slater-schoolwear.co.uk. Orders can be delivered to home (for a small charge) or delivered to school. As the weather is getting warmer (finally), please can you ensure that your child has their name on jumpers/cardigans as the children are taking them off and trying to reunite pupils to belongings is a great challenge if they are not named.

Road Safety – If your child walks to/from school, please ensure that they use the crossing patrol at the crossroads and understand to check all routes before crossing. There have been several reports of pupils crossing busy roads unsupervised (particularly at the Co-op) which could result in a serious accident.

Office Hours - The school office is closing every day from 9.30am – 11am. This is to allow Mrs MacLeod to have some uninterrupted time to focus on office duties. We will review this if need be, but in the meantime thank you for your understanding.

School Garden – This term, the children will be involved in the creation of a school garden as part of our outdoor learning curriculum. Any parents/grandparents who have an interest in gardening and would like to lend a hand, please contact school. Donations of seeds, bulbs, shrubs, saplings, pots or other garden resources would be gratefully received.
