Come and See

Come and See is the religious education programme recommended by Liverpool Archdiocese. It is the scheme that we follow here at Anderton St Joseph's Catholic Primary School.

Here you will find the termly RE newsletters and more detail about the topics your child is studying. Also there will be photos and information about recent events, worship time and class work.

The governors at St Joseph's have adopted the 'Journey in Love' programme to support the non statutory Relationships and Sex Education in a Christian context.

The programme is authentic to the teaching of the Catholic Church and is intended to support teachers and parents in Catholic schools to enable the holistic growth of children.  We acknowledge that parents and carers are the key persons for children learning about sex and relationships, the foremost educators. Our programme should complement their role in nurturing their children’s human wholeness.

As part of our commitment to you, we will hold a meeting annually for the parents and carers of children in Years 5 and 6 to discuss the programme's contents. You have the right to withdraw your child from this aspect of the curriculum however, this is not to be confused with curriculum Science which is statutory.

Las Posadas

Las Posadas is a nine day celebration with origins in Spain, now celebrated chiefly in Mexico.  Posada is Spanish for 'lodging' or 'accommodation'.  It is said in plural because it is celebrated more than one day in the period.  A group of people process through the streets to different houses each night.  At each house, the resident responds by singing a song and Mary and Joseph are finally recognised and allowed to enter.

As part of our work with the Catholic cluster of schools, Las Posadas has been adapted into a journey which fits our means.  The statues of Mary and Joseph travel around 22 schools in our area (3 secondary and 19 primary).

The journey take a little longer than 9 days, starting in November and ending in December.

Anderton St Joseph’s welcomes Mary and Joseph during the month of December every year.

Our Own Las Posadas

During Advent, we operate our own class by class version of this traditional celebration.  Children take Mary and Joseph home to visit grandparents, friends and relatives to relay and celebrate this wonderful tradition.

A group of pupils from year group 2,3, 4 and 5 visited the Preston Gurdwara in June 2015 as part of our Sikhism week. They learned lots about the Sikh faith and were made very welcome. On return to school they all recounted the visit to their own class.

Coffee morning for First Holy Communion prayer sponsors hosted by the Mini Vinnies.

The Ten Ten theatre company  grounded in Catholic ethos visited school on 1st July . They delivered three super plays all based on Relationship Education. The children enjoyed all the performances and learnt a lot about making happy and healthy relationships.
