New Starters

Welcome to St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

We are delighted that you and your child will be joining our school this coming September. On behalf of the Staff, Governors, children and parents, it gives us great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community.

Starting school is a milestone for both you and your child. It is a time to be celebrated. Whilst we understand that current measures make this more difficult, we will do everything we can to ensure it stays a positive experience for everyone.

As a school we are committed to smooth and timely transitions that allow each child to settle in, get to know their teachers and make new friends. Ordinarily, as part of this process, we would be inviting you all to a number of events and meetings. However, due to the current situation this is not possible so we are finding alternative ways to prepare your child and give them the best possible start to school. Over the coming days and weeks, we will post lots of useful information to this page including videos to meet the Early Years Team, story sessions and virtual visits to see the Reception classroom and outdoor area.

We hope that the information on this page will answer many of the questions you have about your child starting school with us.  Please keep checking for the latest developments and information. You can also contact the Early Years Team directly by emailing:

Preparing for School

Many parents want to know how to get their child ‘School ready’ so below is a collection of websites, ideas and activities to help. However, it is important to remember that every child is unique and may learn at a different pace.

The most important way to ensure a child is school ready is to promote independence, build confidence and encourage them to have an inquisitive mind, asking questions and engaging in conversations. This will develop their communication and language as well as their understanding of the world, which will help children be ready to learn when they start school.
