Miss Egan is the class teacher for Year One.

We are thrilled to welcome children into Year 1. Building on the strong foundations laid in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Year 1 is a time of discovery, growth, and deeper learning.

In Year 1, we create a nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn. We believe that children learn best when they are happy, confident, and engaged, so our curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, foster independence, and encourage a lifelong love of learning.

We try to make the transition from EYFS to Year 1 as smooth as possible for the children, ensuring that learning choices are prominent in the first couple of months of Year 1. Throughout the year, there will be a gradual tranisition towards more structured learning with a reduced emphasis on child- initiated choices.

Our aims for Year 1:

By the end of Year 1, we aim for every child to:

  • Develop a love for learning across all subjects.

  • Build strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics.

  • Begin to think critically and ask questions about the world around them.

  • Grow in independence, resilience, and confidence.

  • Show kindness, respect, and responsibility towards others.

Our dedicated team of teachers and support staff work closely with parents and carers to ensure every child achieves their potential and feels proud of their progress.

We warmly invite you to be part of our Year 1 journey — together, we will make this a year full of discovery, joy, and memorable achievements.
