Healthy Eating

Here at St Joseph's we teach the children about  health and well being.

Pupils are taught to understand the importance of a balanced diet, supported by regular exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

As part of our positive healthy eating approach, KS1 pupils are provided with fresh fruit on a daily basis as well as the opportunity to drink freshly supplied milk.  Every KS1 child brings a  water bottle each day which can be replenished as necessary at school thus ensuring access to drinking water throughout the day.

Our KS2 children also bring water bottles each day, have the opportunity to drink freshly supplied milk and also have access to a morning snack of wholemeal toast. For pupils who don't wish to purchase this snack, they have the option of bringing fresh fruit or suitable healthy snack to eat at morning play.

Snacks
Healthy snacks provide extra energy and can also provide essential vitamins and nutrients to fuel the developing body. Most children need two to three healthy snacks in addition to three meals.

The School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme helps your child achieve 5 a-day. All KS1 pupils receive daily fruit and vegetables as a mid-morning snack as part of a government funded fruit and vegetable scheme.

There is a choice of:

bananas
apples
pears
carrots
tomatoes
easy peel citrus fruits, such as satsumas.

KS2 pupils have the opportunity to pre-order wholemeal toast to have at break time. Likewise they are also encouraged to bring their own healthy snack.
